Hey dear community, first of all I hope you are all doing well and you had a weekend which has brought some new experiences into your life! Today I took the time to share something about an experience I made in China and hope you like my post.
During my time in China it was quite clear to me that I would visit the world-famous Chinese wall one day and from Beijing two possibilities came into question for me like Badaling or Mutianyu. Even if Badaling is easier to reach, I decided to go to Mutianyu because here is simply much less crowd of tourists and with the approach I had pretty much no problems and arrived by bus in about 1.5 hours from Beijing at the cable car station in Mutianyu and the whole area which is surrounded by dense forests and a breathtaking landscape was a perfect change to the hectic large city. For the transfer to the wall there are various options such as a ride by car, bus or taxi and arrived at the location there is the possibility to reach the wall on foot or by cable car. A unique thing of this section of the wall is clearly the condition and a few decades ago a large part was renovated here, which is why the wall is in a particularly good condition here and unique are also all the towers which occur here in a particularly high number compared to other sections and in addition, some precautions were taken during the construction of this section such as strong walls why it's considered particularly safe. There are different stations that can be visited by cable car and depending on which option is chosen, people have to walk more or less and I decided to take only one station and take the way to the highest tower on foot, which was of course more exhausting than with more transfers, but I was able to get the most out of my visit and after I reached the highest tower, I went down again with a gondola.
The wall was originally built for the purpose of defense and depending on the region the raw materials used vary and mainly wood, stone, granite or clay were used. One of the most important tasks was also to mark the Chinese territory and the troops had been very well trained in communicating with each other with different methods and so they could identify dangers in a short time and send them to the nearest posts without the attacker often noticing anything and usually certain signs were used for these purposes. Various dynasties were involved in the construction and the section in Mutianyu was built by the Qin dynasty and later expanded by the Ming dynasty and even if it's almost unimaginable, the entire length of the wall is over 20,000 kilometres. For China it's one of the most important landmarks and is not without reason declared as one of the new seven wonders of the world as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and when it comes to the history of the country, the great wall an important part.
Of course it's up to each visitor which part he visits and most who arrive from Beijing will visit Badaling, because it's particularly easy to reach and can be reached by train in a short time. However, it must be noted here that extremely much tourism prevails here, which is why I can recommend visiting Mutianyu and even if the journey is a bit complicated, it's also no problem and in any case worth to experience the best experience and depending on how much time someone has as well as the options which were chosen, a few hours can be spent there and I was there about six hours. Under no circumstances should the heat be underestimated and a sun hat or other precautions should be taken beforehand and it's also very important to take a few bottles of water with you beforehand!
