Hey everyone, first of all I would like to wish you all a pleasant day and hope you can have a great start to the new weekend! In this post, I would like to bring a new mineral a little closer and hope you are able to expand your knowledge.

Today I had the opportunity to photograph a very rare and more unknown representative from the mineral class of germanate and silicates, which is also known as Ternesite. More specifically, it is also assigned to the Island Silicates (Nesosilicates) and only at the end of the 20th century century, it was recognized as an independent mineral and there are only less than 5 places where it was discovered and due to its rarity, it is also of great interest for the research field and of course in the circles of collectors. It is probably particularly interesting in research when it comes to finding new materials and it was found out that you can produce cement with the help of the mineral, which requires significantly less CO2, but due to the rarity, this is still more of a research topic so far, which of course makes synthetic production very lucrative and it also already resembles synthetic structures. It was found out that it is caused by the influence of high temperatures between 1000 and 1200 degrees Celsius and Ternesite was named after Bernd Ternes who first found the mineral in Germany and other places of discovery include France, Russia or Israel. The color can vary and can take on brown, blue or other shades which are due to the contamination with other minerals and the appearance can vary and it is a great pleasure for me to be able to bring this rare mineral a little closer.
