Hey dear Hive community, first of all I would like to wish you all a pleasant day and hope you also had a great start to the weekend! Today I would like to present some pictures of the moon and go into mythology and hope you can learn something new.
Soon it will be full moon and I have used today for the opportunity to photograph the moon in its almost full glory and this time there is even a partial lunar eclipse to be seen and I hope that I can admire this rare astronomical event which is supposed to take place in less than 24 hours. In this post I would like to introduce you to a moon deity from Mesopotamian mythology which has also been widely revered and known as Sin and its important place of worship was in the city of Ur where it had the most important place of worship. In Ur he also had a moon castle as well as a temple in the city of Harran which has also been revered as a moon city and in addition he had several places where his cult was celebrated. Part of the Sin cult was often reserved only for the daughters of kings who often appeared as priestesses to worship the cult of this god. In some illustrations he is also often depicted as a young bull and also some nomadic peoples worshipped Sin very much and brought in regular offerings.
Ninlil and Enlil are also known as parents of Sin and the equivalent of him from sumerian mythology is nanna and one of his most important attributes was the crescent and in traditions he is often depicted differently and there are numerous legends that say that he sailed across the sky with a boat. According to a legend, one day he fell in love with a cow which he even saved one day when it had severe pain at birth and for this reason he is sometimes also associated with fertility. The cow had such severe pain one day at birth that she almost died and Sin saw that and sent her two daughters of the city god Ur with whom he saved the cow's life. In other births, Sin was also often summoned as an obstetrician and as the god of the night he usually appeared in a bright form and was often portrayed as a protective personality.
Many thanks for stopping by and I hope you like my new contribution! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
