Hey dear Hive community, I hope you are all well and your day was full of positive experiences and I would also like to wish you a positive start to the new week! In this post, I would like to talk about mythology and hope you can expand your knowledge.
You can see here are works of art that I have all created with the help of artificial intelligence and represent the goddess of the moon Selene from the Greek mythology which is also known as the moon goddess. Selene also belongs to the race of the Titans and her parents are Hyperion and Theia and together with her siblings Eos and Helios she is responsible for the different times of the day and Eos is also considered the god of dawn and Helios is also known as the personification of the sun. Selene is usually depicted with a crescent moon on her head and her other attributes included her silver chariot with which she was traveling in the sky and she is often depicted as a veiled woman with a torch and here you can also see the connections to alchemy in which the moon is also associated with the metal silver and is associated with a crescent in alchemical alphabet. After selene, the well-known element selenium and the mineral selenite as well as some plants were named after her such as the genus Selenicereus, which has the interesting property to open their flowers only at night.
Her chariot was pulled by horses and her brother Helios also had a chariot with which he could be seen in the sky and unlike other gods, she did not have her own temple and was especially worshipped in the night sky. She was also often associated with femininity and was considered the protector of pregnant women and was associated with fertility and also in rural areas she was revered by farmers who associated her with harvest. As the man of selene, the king Endymion is also known with whom she had 50 daughters and she is also known for having created the Nemian lion and the equivalent of her from Roman mythology is Luna. She is also depicted a beautiful woman with a noble paleness and white clothes and while her brothers were responsible for the fact that people had light during the day, selene illuminated the evening sky with the light of the moon. Selene is often depicted in art and can be seen in various paintings, murals, vases or more and is still an inspiration for many artists today.
Thanks for taking the time to read through my post and I hope you like it and can learn something new about mythology!
