Dear Hive Community, first of all, I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you are well! In my new post, I would like to present a mineral in a little more detail and hope you can learn something new.
You can see here the mineral Scheelite which also belongs to the mineral class of sulfates and I was even able to photograph a fluorescence under UV light. If you are generally more interested in fluorescence of minerals, here is a post from me in which I have already discussed the topic in more detail and today I have selected some minerals with this effect which I would like to present in more detail in the near future. Scheelite was named in the 19th Century by the German mineralogist Karl Cäsar von Leonhard (1779 - 1862) who referred to the Swedish chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele (1742 - 1786) in the naming. Already before the official naming it has already been mentioned in writing and often found together with the mineral cassiterite which is one of the most important ores for the extraction of tin, Scheelite itself but does not contain tin but is of interest due to the content of the metal tungsten as ore. From an industrial point of view, there are not many uses and also for the production of jewelry, it is rather brittle due to the consistency and is rarely used and it is particularly sought after in collectors circles. It is also used for the production of turic acid and tungsten as a metal is of great importance for many areas and is used for the production of space technology, fluorescent tubes and is also important for the defense and pharmaceutical industry. The formation can be traced back to hydrothermal or processes or by contact metamorphosis and worldwide, it has already been discovered at more than 4000 locations and the most important places of discovery are Japan, Spain, Africa, USA or South Korea and it is usually found with other minerals such as cassiterite, garnet, muscovite or quartz.
