Hey dear Hive friends, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you are well and your day is full of positive experiences! Here I would like to introduce a mineral a little more closely and hope you can expand your knowledge a little.
You can see here the mineral Mimetite, which also belongs to the mineral class of vanadates, phosphates and arsenates and this rather rare mineral was first named by the French mineralogist Francois Sulpice Beudant (1787 - 1850) and its formation can be traced back to oxidation in lead and zinc-containing deposits. It is usually found together with other minerals such as smithsonite, calcite, galenite or vanadinite and Mimetite contains arsenic, which is why it must be stored in sealed containers due to its toxic properties. Theoretically, it would also be of interest as an ore for the extraction of lead or arsenic, but it is too rare and it would not be profitable to mine it from an economic point of view and is particularly popular with mineral collectors and the most important places of discovery include Africa, Greece, Australia or France. The crystals are often needle-shaped and the color is yellow or green and in the past it was also important for the extraction of color pigments and if you are more interested in minerals and art history, here is a contribution from me where I have already discussed the production of colors from minerals.
Many thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about minerals! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
