Today I had the opportunity to photograph this small but fine piece of solid lead and lead is particularly known for its easily fusible and soft consistency. Among the ancient alchemists, lead was also associated with the planet Saturn, which got its name from Roman mythology and as the equivalent of it from ancient Greece, Cronus is also known and in addition it was one of the most important basic substances and was associated with Prima Materia, which was of great importance for the production of artificial gold. There were many experiments in which lead was used to make gold from it and it was of great importance for transformation processes, but the whole thing is not so easy and in reality you had to take some protons from the lead to achieve the goal and often lead can often be found together with silver and this has been used for research to artificially produce silver. Lead is considered toxic, but at that time it was also used in small doses for medical purposes and it was still almost until the 20th century often used for these purposes and even today it is still used in homeopathy. As always, I would like to mention that in case of illness, you should always ask your trusted doctor or pharmacist about the correct use, dosage and possible side effects to prevent complications! Lead was also used as a color pigment at that time to mix different shades, but this has not always turned out to be an advantage and there was a lot of poisoning among painters and even today lead is often used for the production of different colors or varnishes and in the past it was even used as make-up. Lead can also be found in the mythology of some cultures and appears again and again in legends and it was often considered a magical metal in ancient times. The arrowhead of the arrows that Hephaestus had created for eros were also made of lead and it was also of great importance in history and has also shaped the trade as well as many branches.
