Good day dear Hive community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you are all well and made some great experiences today! In my new post I would like to present you a plant and hope you can learn something new.

The plant that can be seen here bears the name Evening Primrose and scientifically Oenothera and is derived from the Greek word oeno for wine as well as theras for to seek. Originally, this yellow miracle comes from South as well as North America and in the 17th century it came to Europe and was described in 1753 by the Swedish botanical Carl Linnaeus. The flowering period begins as early as June and stretches into late summer and the bright yellow flowers mainly attract moths.

Also interesting is the property that the flowers only open in the evening hours and it only takes about 20 minutes for the flowers to open. Evening primrose prefers sunny locations and is very easy to care for as well as hardy and do not get higher than 70 cm and also able to reproduce themselves well. If you should play with the idea of cultivating the plant, you should use a substrate that is rather low in nutrients, sandy or calcareous. A sandy or generally dry soil is particularly useful for this reason because waterlogging causes a lot of trouble for the plant and the roots can be quickly damaged as a result.

Symbolically, the plant is often associated with the moon or the sun and because the flowers only show up at night, it is often seen as a transition between light and darkness. It is also often associated with vitality and positivity and it can affect creativity. I could not find out much about mythology but it was probably already used by the Native Americans as a medicinal plant to cure various diseases as well as for ceremonial purposes.

As a medicinal plant, it can be used in many ways universally against various diseases. One of the interesting properties is probably the anti-inflammatory effect and it can also help against chronic diseases. The seeds that contain a lot of gamma-linolenic acid as well as the roots and leaves can be especially interesting. As always, it is important to mention that you should always ask your doctor about the correct use, dosage and possible side effects!
