The mineral that can be seen here is called chalcopyrite and it is a representative of the class of sulfosalt and sulfides. It has high proportions of copper which can often contain over 30% and therefore it is very interesting for the extraction of copper and is even one of the most important copper ores worldwide from an industrial point of view. The name is also derived from the Greek of the word Chalkos which means copper as well as Pyros for fire and it was also already mentioned by the well-known Greek philosopher Aristotle. It received the final name by the mineralogist Wilhelm Ritter von Haidinger (1795 - 1871) and copper chalcopyrite also often contains traces of gold and can be interesting for the extraction of gold. Like pyrite, it has the property that when you rub chalcopyrite, sparks are created and you could theoretically make fire with it and the color is gold and shiny and due to weathering it changes the color and rainbow colors can be created. It is often found in metamorphic or magmatic rocks and it tends to form twins and it is often found with other copper-containing minerals such as malachite or azurite.
It is a rather common mineral soft can be found worldwide and the most important places of discovery are Italy, Mexico, Russia, Africa, America and Greece. The history of Chalcopyrite goes back a long way and it was already used by the ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Romans or other cultures to extract copper off it or to develop their technologies. It was also of great for to the trading sector and growth of many economic areas and especially trade flourished in the Middle Ages and it became increasingly important over time and has shaped many cultures. From a symbolic point of view, it is associated with the element fire and is often associated with wisdom or transformation as a stone and can help to improve harmony and bring the body into a positive balance.
