Hey dear Hiveans, I hope you are all well and you had a weekend that was full of positive experiences! In this post, I would like to bring a plant a little closer and hope you can learn something new.
Here you can see pictures of Bearberry cotoneaster which is also known under the scientific name Cotoneaster dammeri and originally comes from Asia. There are different species and some are low-growing, but there are species that can grow into small trees that grow over 10 meters high. In summer the flower forms, which attracts some species of insects and from an ecological point of view the red berries are a great food for birds and provide food for birds until late in winter, but for humans it is slightly poisonous and one should urgently advise against consumption in order to avoid complications. The toxic effect can be traced back to the active ingredient glycosides and I find it always interesting to see how some toxic active ingredients are not a problem for birds or other animals. Since it is an invasive plant, you should make sure to place it in a place where it cannot spread too much and it is very adaptable when it comes to the location and thrives great in sunny or semi-shaded places and it grows extremely fast. It is also interesting that it is able to displace pest plants due to the growth and due to the root system it can help to avoid soil erosion. Historically, it is already strongly anchored and has often been mentioned in ancient writings in Asia and from a symbolic point of view it can help attract positivity or happiness.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about nature! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
