Hydrogen is not naturally very common. It must be produced or removed from natural gas or other fossil fuels.
This is why we call it the source of energy, not the source of hydrogen. So you can do it, but it's not energy efficient. It is sometimes useful as a drive or storage.
In the meantime, gasoline is usually used as the driving force of the car has 35% of the energy, the rest is heat and other loss of energy. Electric batteries are better with 90%.
Storage is also a challenge, hydrogen can easily escape and require special materials. For safety reasons, however, it no longer has to be more dangerous than normal gasoline. Don't forget Graf Zeppelin!
Hydrogen can be useful for large trucks or airplanes and other applications, provided that batteries are inexpensive and abundant, as well as batteries and other forms of storage.
