As I always mention that nature is always awesome, and the more I am into macro the more I know that there are so many cool stuff or creature out there. There will be a few changes in the way we used to know some creatures under the macro shots since we can see the details we might skip before.
Just like this Silver Spiny Ant, since I used to know that this is just a normal ant, which is only wandering around alone. But under my macro shots, I come to realize there are slight differences from the normal ant that I know.
They are from Genus Polyrhachis - from the Greek words : Poly + Rhachis. The prefix poly- means “many” and the suffix -rhákhis (ῥάχις) means “spine or ridge”. In conclusion, “the spiny ant
You can see the spine on its back, a pair of them facing backward, and another pair facing the front. It is said that they have the spine as the defensive mechanism against its predator. And this species from this genus has a slight orange color on its legs.
