Well well, I learned something new today while int he process of composing this post. At first I though this plant species is one of the native from Asia, as we use it very often here in Bali. But apparently it came from a place on the other side of the world, but somehow now become part of everyday life here.
This species is the Marigold, one of the common flower that we use as offerings here in Bali. As I said that since this flower already too common, I thought it come from Asia, but it come from South America. They are called Tagetes. Tagetes is a genus of 50 species of annual or perennial, mostly herbaceous plants in the family Asteraceae. They are among several groups of plants known in English as marigolds. Originally called cempōhualxōchitl, by the Nahua people, these plants are native to Central and Southern Mexico and several other Latin American countries. . It is so interesting to know that a flower that come from the other side of the world, now has become almost a replaceable item for everyday life here in Bali, a place which separated by vast ocean.
Anyway, these are the marigolds that are cultivated by my neighbor farmer. It is always nice to see their flower, so fluffy and also its bright yellow color is so tempting to no take a closerr look.
Since it is now become a good comodities, this flower is also cultivated in a semi modern way, not like how it used to be in the past, where they just let them grow wildly, and then harvest them when they are ready. Now they take a good care of it, so that they can have a good yield.
