The Garuda Wisnu Kencana depicts the deity Vishnu riding the Garuda bird.
Statues of Garuda Wisnu Kencana are commonly found in Bali, ranging from premium wood carvings to decorative items and signature Balinese souvenirs.
The statue consists of three parts: The upper section depicts the deity Vishnu, the middle section features the Garuda bird, and the lower section represents the Naga (serpent).
The Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue symbolizes selfless devotion, loyalty, and sacrifice (embodied by Garuda), as well as the responsibility to maintain the harmony and balance of nature (embodied by Vishnu).
This traditional masterpiece concept also inspired the construction of the colossal GWK monument in Badung, Bali.
