Not so long ago there was a constant hate against Epic Games Store. You could have seen it very clearly on Reddit, where all the praises for Epic Games were downvoted and everything in favor of Steam was upvoted.
That's pretty typical for Reddit and there is no reason to argument with these people. They demotivated me enough to not check any other gaming platform because I really thought it's that bad.
When Epic Games Store was giving GTA V for free for a limited time period to people on their platform I didn't hesitate one bit. I installed the platform, claimed GTA V, downloaded it and after that I started playing. It's one of the games I always wanted to own and play online with friends.
I expected Epic Games Store crashing, having bugs and not working properly, but honestly nothing like that happened, nothing was wrong with it. I didn't understand the hate at all!
After GTA V more and more highly rated games were coming in and being given for free. I was spending less and less time on Steam and just played through the Epic Games Store.

This is not an old game and is still pretty pricey on Steam even with the current Steam's Summer Sale happening. Why are they trying to defend a company that much?
It's a business.
It needs to make money.
It's not your friend.
There is no reason to not be on all the gaming platforms that offer you something that you can use to your own advantage. On Epic Games it's not just about free games, they have some very good deals and prices too - sometimes much better than what Steam's Summer Sale can offer.
Truth is, Epic Games is not robust as Steam, that's for sure, but it's getting here. Steam has the biggest community, the biggest number of games and things like that, but having a competition is a good thing.
Good thing for who you may ask?
The customer like yourself.
