There is a time in life, when this understanding or rather questions arises, when did I grow up, and you try remembering what you did in your early twenties, so the earlier you start making right decisions for yourself, the better.
Well, this is one time I truly took my destiny in my hands.
WHAT DID I DO?
Going to school arrangement was in process. I had already written my JAMB , I was preparing for post U.T.M.E, and the location was close to the school I picked as my first choice, the time was 7 a.m, I have no family or friends there. And I could never make it if I decided to go that same morning, I became confuse, I can't come this far to give up. I started asking people close to me, if they had any relatives who could agree for me to spend a night at their place. Well I later found one place but it was a bachelor's house, he's living alone.
I could not tell my parents or siblings, they would all say no! And I might loose this first and probably last opportunity to go to school. So I told them, it was a family's house, mum trust me. And so I took my destiny In my own hands and off I went.
WHAT MADE ME DO SO?
It was the first opportunity, I got since four years after I left school, I had even given up hope. I was already planning on going back to Lagos state to work as a labourer. Then suddenly, I got a call to go get the post U.T.M.E form and money was immediately sent.
I was so joyful, I was glad. This was a dream come through. I worked very hard not to make any mistake of missing this opportunity. I read hard and held on tight. So I had to take that decision not to loose my opportunity of going to school.
WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME AND WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING LOOKING BACK IN HINDSIGHT?
Chad was his name, he was average in height, fair in complexion and younger than his age. He picked me up from the park and we walked to his house. It was a semi self-contained. It was nice but tight, it was not spacious at all.
At first, I felt claustrophobic and scared but after, we started talking, and laughing, I became a bit comfortable and calm. He has already cooked before I arrived, so after talking for a while, we ate, the food was delicious but I didn't eat well. I don't know why. So after eating, we rested a while and he decided we shud have a stroll to the nearest beer parlour, just to have some drinks. At first I felt uncomfortable about it due to the insecurities in the area but after much persuasion I decided to give it a try. Just to have some fun and memories since it my first time of been in that state. Not knowing he has invited his friends over to join us. They came around, joined us but I noticed they were speaking a language "kind of slangs", secret hand shakes and making signs, that was when I knew they were in a secret cult.
I was scared, I couldn't take my chilled glass of malt anymore, I was sweating because I knew the environment is a very dangerous and unsecured area. Still deliberating on my next move, I heard gun shot. Their rival has shot at them. I went straight to the floor and lie down flat as I've watched in Hollywood movies. I was so scared because the bullet hit a member of Chad's group.
The only chance I had for me to get up. I ran straight for my dear life. Some of rival's chased me but I was able to beat them with my speed, I felt like Tom Cruise. I went straight to a near by church for safety and spent the night there. The next morning i gathered courage and stealth mode action, move to Chad's House, pack my things and left. I went to the school did my exam with a troubled mind-set and took the next bus home. God saved me that night. I couldn't disclose what happened to my family.
But if asked if I would take such risk and decision again. My answer is, I don't know. Too many action movies practically saved me that night. And I was offered the admission though.
Taking your destiny in your hands can be tough at times, but show your destiny what u are made of with God's leading of course.
