In the year 2006, after some minor delays, the Bugatti Veyron was launched, named after a French driver Pierre Veyron.
Human beings have always had a thing for speed, wanting to go fast, accelerate beyond a preset mark. The fastest street legal car in the world, that is until the 1600 horse power vehicle is working, comes to fruition.
Don't get me wrong, the thrill of high speed, the rush, the respect and street cred, and of course the chicks, all add to an unending need for speed.
The real question comes thus, is the speed a guarantee of going fast?
Right about now the pitch forks are sharpened, but before then, please be patient as the main idea behind this writing unfolds.
Man is concerned about how fast he can go, but no matter how fast man wants to go, man is limited by laws which somehow allows man to build devices which allow him to go fast, but some how places a limit on how fast he should go.
Speed is a concept created by man to show how fast he can go, but what we do not see is it also tells us how fast we should go.
Is being fast the same as going fast?
Even though the terms sound synonymous to the ears, I assure you they are not. Having the ability to be fast, only gives you a means or mechanism of acquiring the speed.
Actually going fast means you decide to use the mechanism.
It is likened to buying a movie ticket for a movie, it does not necessarily mean you will eventually get to see the movie.
The fastest street legal car, affords you over 430+ km/h, which means, without restrictions, gives you the ability to travel at almost 78% the speed of sound.
As far back as 1997, we already had a car that broke the sound barrier, meaning it basically ran faster than it's sound. Imagine outrunning your own voice, technically, you would be long gone before it's even heard.
Now we hear of a prototype for a land vehicle that will go as fast as 1000m/h. You heard right, 3 times faster than the speed of sound, and the speed of sound is just Mach 1 which is even hard to attain, imagine attaining going three times faster than sound.
Of course if materialized, it will be amazing, because before you exhale totally, the vehicle would be long gone and it's sound will take three times the normal time for a race car, for you to even hear that a vehicle was even there. Imagine missing and hearing after it's long gone, but here is the problem...
The laws were designed to make super fast vehicles but not use them freely
If you had an ice cream and you were told never to lick it because by chance, it was common knowledge that a brain freeze might occur was high, I am very sure your first line of thought will be, why was it manufactured in the first place.
The law does not prohibit you from owning a legal fast car, but it prevents you from exceeding a certain speed limit with such vehicle, which is sometimes about less than five times the normal speed of such a vehicle.
A street legal car, in it's simplest definition, is a vehicle without unlawful and unlicensed modification done to such a vehicle. Unlawful modification comes in many forms ranging from speed boosts, spare parts and lots more which, were not made or added by the original vehicle manufacturer.
The proper term for such is called a speed limit, which is legally how fast you should go in a particular environment. ##### There are usually exceptions to speed limits, as in cases of extreme emergencies such as a high speed police chase, paramedics on an emergency, federal agencies, but you don't see them driving Veyrons now do you?
The laws on speed limits were made for a good reason, to prevent certain maniacs from road abuse. For clarity's sake, road abuse occurs when certain road users recklessly endanger other road users by direct or indirect involvement or action.
By now, the main line of thought for some might be, why produce cars we don't really get to use, the answer is quite simple, it is because such cars were designed to make people "feel" fast not necessarily go as fast as getting themselves killed.
Let's go buy a Bugatti
So I ask again, does being fast allow you to go that fast
