Waking up early, getting the whole shazam ready, load the car, beem bam!
I always get anxious when there is a long build up on a song I worked on for a while, especially this one it's a big song, there's a little bit of pressure. Then you wait until the weather is good, and you just hope that everything goes well, there's no real way to predict how it will go.

From the get go that morning, I could feel that the atmosphere was challenging. I need to hurry before the sun is too high in the sky and I don't have the right mood.
Oh no! That thing that you see above, I forgot it at home, and only realized it when setting up on location.
So by the time I went back home, pick the little thingy, then drive back to the location, and shoot, the sun was much higher in the sky.
But it's alright, let's roll with the punches.
It's still looking pretty though. This is the "Puydarieux Lake", mostly bird watchers, and hunters of course, that were very curious to watch me play that morning.
Lucky for me, they stopped shooting while I was playing, but the chainsaw guys in the forest didn't get the memo, but it's ok, we roll with the punches!
The first version I recorded was good, and quite emotional, but I didn't realize that the mic gain was too high, and it saturated.
One thing about audio, you can save a sound that has a low gain, but if it saturates, you won't be able to save much with compressors, the take is not salvageable.
A Change Is Gonna Come
Sam Cooke
I was born by the river, in a little tent
Oh, and just like the river
I've been running ever since
It's been a long
A long time coming
But I know a change gonna come
Oh, yes it will
It's been too hard living
But I'm afraid to die
'Cause I don't know what's up there
Beyond the sky
It's been a long
A long time coming
But I know a change gonna come
Oh, yes it will
I go to the movie
And I go downtown
Somebody keep telling me
Don't hang around
It's been a long
A long time coming
But I know, a change gonna come
Oh, yes it will
Then I go to my brother
And I say, brother, help me please
But he winds up, knockin' me
Back down on my knees
Oh, there been times that I thought
I couldn't last for long
But now I think I'm able, to carry on
It's been a long
A long time coming
But I know a change gonna come
Oh, yes it will
Because of that first take that was saturating, I really tried to keep some self restrain on the second one, and it was very loosy goosy, with the tempo too, and just keeping the vibe chilled.
I couldn't get closer with the car, but the view was nice up there too
If you don't know about the original, you should go check it out as it's masterpiece.
There are countless of amazing versions of the song, pick your interpret.
I feel that this song is more relevant than ever, anyone take what they want from a song, but it's really about hope.
It often gets worse before it gets better, is a saying that we are all familiar with; we also underestimate our level of resilience, and what we could accomplish when facing challenges.
