I feel as old as the hills when I have to talk about my life's journey, but as checkered as it has been, I love talking about it regardless. I think I have lived long enough to understand a little of how things work around here, and living with a wise old woman in my formative years, did vest on me a certain level of extrasensory power of perception(which I recklessly ignored, the greater part of my life). Being able to sense and understand signs from the universe takes the mind, not the senses, and that's why I classify it under ESP.
Living with Grandma has its perquisites
I do believe that the universe does always give a sign which we often ignore or choose not to even acknowledge in the first place. Sometimes it's just a nudge in some direction, sometimes a gut feeling gnaws at one's heart. In most cases I have failed my instincts in failing to recognize that the universe doesn’t just whisper to us, it actually shouts.
You just have to be willing to listen
She believed that there were signs in every thing created by "Orisa"(God), a universal intelligence of some sort trying to communicate with us, through the winds, through the earth we thread upon, in the movement of the plants around us and even through the actions of our domestic animals, Grandma would see a sign in everything, and as unbelievable as it might sound, she was always almost right.
I remember when one of our female goats had a miscarriage, she didn't find it funny, she said it was a bad omen, a sign from the universe, when our "Ujunjun" tree suddenly withered, it was another sinister sign, she said. When the lower eyelid twitched, it was a sign of tears, when the palms of your hands itched, it was a sign of provision, and so on and so forth. And guess what? It was uncanny how she got these things right.
Every 3am, right before the bustle of the day begins, was the time she would get up to speak against the negative signs she had observed earlier, reversing them.
Then one of her daughters in the City fell down the stairs and almost had a miscarriage but it was somehow averted.
My dad was involved in a bike accident that almost claimed his life, but he did survive it somehow! These were all signs she had observed in the past.
I can almost picture her sitting outside, maybe beneath the mango tree, with her tobacco pipe between her lips, telling me after some of my probings, that;
Some things are learned from books, but some can only be learned through life
She would tell you to always listen to your instincts, because one's spirit often senses what one's eyes cannot see.
You must be attuned with your surroundings and your intuition, for you to be able to read the signs
And trusting more in your instincts and whatever message it is trying to convey to you, brings tranquility, her words have been conferred with immutability I tell you, or how else would one explain how they have been proven to be so true, over and again?
But to understand these signs and profit from them, you must have an open heart to perceive and a listening ear to "hear' when the universe is speaking to you!
What you are searching for is also searching for you
I remember how my father's dog, Jacko barked at my ex-husband for several days on end, when he first visited my parents, before our marriage. He simply refused to be friends with him! Was the union a success? No! Did the universe speak? Yes it did, but through Jacko!
Long after Jacko's death, the marriage collapsed like a pack of cards
A lot has happened along the years, and though I have largely ignored many signs, sometimes blatantly, because perhaps they were not speaking the nice things I wanted to hear, but in whatever form they now come, as subtle feelings, instincts, or small coincidences, I have learnt to realign with the universe again, perceiving and acting accordingly!
I am more at peace trusting the universe
And this prompt..... Eric's prompt has reminded me once again of the importance of understanding that;
Though the eyes can see, it is the heart that truly perceives
