I think the best part about Go is that you can challenge players much worse than you and give them a handicap so it becomes a much more fair game. The handicap is built directly into the game and the ranks are the same as martial arts ranks. Pretty cool.
I think it's also really crazy that all the pieces in Go are exactly the same with the same power but the custom formations you build with them can have crazy unpredictable emergent properties. Personally I think Go is harder to play than chess and has more strategy.
Also when you're losing at Go the game is still fun to play. You might for sure know you're going to lose the game because your opponent has too many points, but there can still be multiple battles left on the board that you can still play out and win, even if you're going to lose the war. Meanwhile, if you're losing badly at a chess game there is just nothing you can do and your moves become hugely pointless.
