The strategy of buying in September exists independently from the cycle and seems to work each and every year.

  • $58k in 2024
  • $27k in 2023
  • $20k in 2022
  • $4k in 2017
  • $130 in 2013

As it relates to the cycle, pulling the trigger in a bear market year tends to be just a little bit early; even though the price is good it's extremely stressful, be it the 2018 dip from $6000 to $4000 or the FTX collapse of 2022. But clearly those would have still been good buys regardless with a bit of conviction especially with some dry powder left over to continue buying.

In bull market years it's often an amazing play as the price is just about to moon, with 2021 being an outlier because we didn't get a blow off top that year. But still it went from $41k to $65k in less than a month so the strategy still held up just fine.

I have been saying this for a while now: if September of this year performs well (and there isn't a dip to buy) that is a top indicator and we are in deep shit. Will repeat this message endlessly if that time comes.
