In an ideal situation we do nothing. Forgive them for their crimes and move on. Strip their power away and make their crimes public knowledge. That's about it. However, this is the ideal situation in which decentralization and crypto have all the power while governments, banks, and corps have been gutted or outright destroyed.

The need for revenge only stems from a powerless position. To stop a bad thing from happening again in a chaotic world we have little control over. Jail is a net negative in all cases if it prevents no crime. In fact we already know from experience it creates more crime than it prevents.

What do these people deserve?

This is not an appropriate question to ask.
Surely they "deserve" horrible things but who will make that determination?
Nobody has that right.

How do we make society better?

This is the only question that needs answering.
A transition to a transparent Utopia would forgive all prior transgressions as it is quite likely those crimes were born from the rotting carcass of the old system and would not be repeated.

Assuming this miracle does not take place it is quite clear that once again we are asking the wrong question.

How do we fix the prison industrial complex?

Again it is totally inappropriate at ask how crimes should be handled when the entire system currently in place for determining exactly that is corrupt to the core. Eh, well, for starters we could actually rehabilitate convicts, teach them actual legitimate trade skills that pay well, and change the broken narrative from revenge and torture to actually fixing the problem. While we're at it we can make that question on job resumes illegal as it obviously should be. Punishing a convict trying to reform and get a job after being rehabilitated has got to be the stupidest shit I've ever witnessed.

And yet we all go along with it like it's fine because that's the way it's always been and well yeah "they probably deserved it". DONT DROP THE SOAP. Haha classic rape joke so hilarious lol lol! The answer is that we need to stop being disgusting chimps flinging our shit and evolve out of this disaster. But I would be lying if I said I knew for a fact that this path of evolution wasn't littered with vigilante and mob justice.
