We'll they are a private mining company so they're going to mine blocks either way.
They get the block reward either way so financially it doesn't matter.
The theory here being that it really did cost them just $8000 in lost fees to fill up a block with junk.
IMO the real question is if the stunt is a net gain or loss for their reputation.
Which seems to be unclear thus far.
