The principle of polarity says: Everything is double, everything has two poles, everything, its pair of opposites, the resemblances and the antagonists are the same, the opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree, the extremes touch, all truths are semi-truths, all paradoxes can be reconciled.

This means that in the universe where we live, everything has a dual nature: black-white, man-woman, good-evil, cold-heat, rich-poverty, love-hate, dirt-clean. And the best way to live is by placing ourselves in the middle, in the center of the scale, without leaning anywhere.

The Kybalion says that opposites are equal in nature, but differ in degrees.

For us to better understand this concept we must imagine a thermometer. In it we see how mercury goes up or down the scale in degrees indicating the temperature of the environment. But here a key question arises, Where does the cold begin and where does the heat begin?

The limit is not zero. Certainly there is no difference between cold and heat. The two are extremes of the same thing, they are opposite poles, the only difference between them is the degree in which they are manifesting. When the thermometer marks the lower degrees, we have the sensation of cold. On the contrary, when the mark reaches higher degrees we say that it is hot. But in essence, we are always talking about the same thing: Temperature.

Another practical example is: Sometimes, when we love someone too much, we also go to the extreme of hatred with ease. After having intensely shared our life with a person, we never want to see them again. We have passed from one pole to the other, as if from cold to heat. When someone says they don't want to see their ex-partner anymore, it's because deep down they still feel a lot of love. He is still acting within the love-hate polarity. The absence of love can be seen when there is indifference, when the person doesn't care whether they see the other or not.

As the Kybalion states, opposites are the same. When we observe a very good person and then compare him with another person who is very bad, in essence we will know that we are talking about the same thing but in different degrees of manifestation, each of them is located at one end. We all have different degrees of goodness and also of evil. Extremists, for whom everything is white or black, have more work to do because it is more difficult for them to be partial or find the middle ground.

The key to getting to the mid-point is unity, and we must try to find it in everything around us. We must learn to recognize that the culprit is also innocent, that no one is as good or as bad as he seems, that nothing is as cute or as ugly as we catalogue it, that nothing is as expensive or as cheap. When we start exercising to find unity in everything, the result is stability.

When we study the principle of vibration, we notice that the highest vibration corresponds to spirit, on the other hand, the lowest vibration corresponds to matter. Now we know that, in essence, the two extremes are the same thing. Only when we learn to stand at the midpoint will we find stability.

In other words, you cannot live happily in the material world without having spirituality and you cannot be spiritual if you do not have order in the material world. The two extremes need to be reconciled to achieve a harmonious life.

But there is also another reality, the opposites touch. To understand this let's see it in another practical example: if I decide to always travel in this direction and I could go all around the world, then I would end up in the same starting point. The question then arises: Where is the east? The most accurate answer according to this principle would be that East and West are the same. We must remember that as above is below, as below is above, it is most likely that if I were to travel through the universe always in the same direction, I would eventually end up at my starting point. In the universe everything has a circular motion.

Surely you are wondering how this principle is used in practical life? The explanation is simple, each time you find yourself living in an extreme situation, that is, that it is located in one or two poles and you want to reverse or neutralize the situation, you must begin to create the energy of the opposite polarity. In this way, you will bring the balance to its midpoint. This is what is known as harmonizing opposites.

You may have heard a comment like the one below. Why doesn't God give a partner to this girl who is so good and helpful? The answer lies in this principle. Because that young woman is generating the energy of the polarities of service and kindness, but not that of love. With goodness, evil is eliminated, with service, helplessness is eliminated, but with none, love is achieved. Love is only achieved when one loves. But who is this woman going to love if she has no one? First of all, to herself, and then to the ideal person who manufactures in her mind. Only in this way will true love be manifested.

People who have money problems or are in poverty should start to give something of what little they have, that is, they should pretend that these in the other pole and begin to act as rich or at least as someone who has solvency. Only then will the energy begin to flow.

In short, we need to change our perception of the world and remove from our mind the idea of polarities.
