Kid McCoy was a notorious boxer who in time became the world champion of his weight division. He was known for his dirty way of fighting and unusual tactics he uses in winning his opponents. In short term, he is not known for being fair but he was sought after as a boxing coach and he was effective in teaching people to fight.
On one of the young men that sought him for boxing instructions went to him and asked, “Would you teach me to fight?”
McCoy said to him “Put up your fists. See, who’s that coming through the door?”
When the young man turned to look, McCoy knocked him down and said “That’s the first lesson’’. Learn to focus and keep your eyes on the man in the ring for every other thing outside the ring does not matter.”
The same thing happened when Jesus was walking on the water; Peter saw Him and asked Jesus to invite him to join of which Jesus did bid him to come. Well I think we know the rest of the story. All was seemly ok until the huge waves frightened him and Peter took his eyes off the target and he began to sink.
In life we will never walk on water according to the laws of physics but we definitely will walk through the storms. When we do, we must stay focused on Jesus or we too will sink in despair.
Matthew 14:22-36
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.”
