Patriarchy system is one that bequeaths primary powers of government or family to the male folks and women are largely excluded from it and this is not only inherent in families or politics but also in religion to a large extent. The Christian religion as practiced by some Churches in Africa does not allow females into the alter area, so standing on the alter to preach is strictly a man's affair. this is patriarchy in the highest order because an alter to every church is the most powerful section of the church where the holy spirit reside. does this mean the female folks aren't pure enough? or where in the bible does it say a woman should not be allowed into the alter?.
The Muslims are not an exemption. Not allowing women into an alter is not the case here but Muslim women are generally not allowed into the primary hall of worship in Nigeria, just men.
Patriarchy as a norm have so much eaten deep into the fabrics of the society that nothing is left to be desired. it give men the license to own women as properties and be and asshole while at it.

Nigeria practice a bicameral legislature system of which consist the senate with 109 members and the representatives with 360 members drown from different part of the country and out of that 109 members only 8 are females. I am talking about the primary Law making body in my country and less than 8.3% are women and that asshole said Patriarchy is a figment of women's imaginations. if this 8.3% does not spell patriarchy, i wonder what will in logdecker's book. Under international standard both men and women should have equal rights and opportunities to everything worldwide.

Am i saying Matriarchy should take over instead of Patriarchy , a big NO. What i am saying is Patriarchy and what it stands for is gender discrimination and should be done away with thereby giving females an equal footing in the scheme of things. Some are of the school of thought that Patriarchy should be replaced with Matriarchy, i don't concur to this because it is a recipe for chaos; the male folks who are power freaks will not just standby and watch this happen but will instead be willing to give gender equality a chance as it is far more better option to them than being dominated by women (opinion poll ).
is matriarchy bad ? No it's not. i believe it will even succeed where Patriarchy has failed but let's not lose sight of what the struggle is for.
I speak for gender equality not Martriarchy.
