who after the Cambridge Analytica scandal expected news from the annual Facebook developer conference, in all probability will have been satisfied: the social network debuts in fact in the market of dating sites dominated by Tinder. It was the same patron Mark Zuckerberg who announced it, opening F8, the traditional rendezvous for software developers held in San Jose, California.
An intervention, that of Zuck, largely focused on the efforts that the company is doing or intends to do to protect user data after the sensational data gate case, a real loss of innocence, in the eyes of the opinion public, for Facebook. The new "dating" function, explained Zuckerberg, "is destined to build authentic and lasting relationships, not just for an evening", assured the head company, recalling that around 200 million of the over 2 billion users are single or unmarried.

However, Zuckerberg did not specify whether the new service will be paid but stressed that users will be able to create a "meeting profile" distinct from the profile of their Facebook page and that potential partners will be suggested on the basis of data from this new profile. After the announcement, one of the main paid dating sites in the US, Match, collapsed on Wall Street by 17 percent. From the series: when you have to deal with the colossus of Menlo Park, investors know that you have a very good chance of getting hurt.
