Die größte Kuckucksuhr der Welt
On the way to Strasbourg, we had to cross the Black Forest. The roads there are not exactly wide, but the landscape is beautiful.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a hint of the world's largest cuckoo clock appeared at the side of the road.
I'll be honest, I've got nothing whatsoever to do with cuckoo clocks, but you've got to take a look. And even more so if you've already been on the road for two hours in a camper van.
In fact, it's not even a real place. There were only a few houses at the somewhat oversized exit, and apart from the cuckoo clock building with its souvenir shop, there was only a restaurant that was closed.
The clock was probably placed in the middle of the Black Forest to attract tourists. That worked in our case, too.

I assume that it also works. We couldn't find out, though, because we didn't want to wait a full hour.
But probably something comes out of the upper window and rings the bell.
But what really impressed me was the gift shop in the same building around the corner.
Considering that you're actually in nowhere here, and there's almost nothing 20 km before and after, you wouldn't expect a store where at least 100 people could shop at the same time.
Of course, there were lots of cuckoo clocks there.
I wondered what was there first. The shop or the world's biggest cuckoo clock.
In the end, it was probably just a clever move and attracts a few tourists willing to buy now and then. I can also imagine that one or the other coach stops here to let its guests stretch their legs for a moment.
It was a welcome change on the way from Augsburg to Strasbourg. But we didn't buy anything.
Auf dem Weg nach Straßbourg mussten wir den Schwarzwald durchqueren. Die Strassen dort sind nicht gerade breit aber dafür ist die Landschaft wunderschön.
Plötzlich tauchte wie aus dem nichts am Wegrand der Hinweis auf die größte Kuckucksuhr der Welt auf.
Ich bin ehrlich, mit Kuckucksuhren habe ich so überhaupt nichts am Hut aber das muss man sich ja mal anschauen. Und erst recht, wenn man vorher schon zwei Stunden mit dem Wohnmobil unterwegs war.
Tatsächlich ist es eigentlich noch nicht mal ein richtiger Ort. An der etwas überdimensioniert wirkenden Ausfahrt befanden sich nur ein paar Häuser und ausser die Kuckucksuhr Gebäude mit dem dazugehörigen Souveniershop, war da nur noch eine Wirtschaft die allerdings geschlossen hatte.
Da wurde wohl die Uhr eigens mitten in den Schwarzwald gestellt, um Touristen anzulocken. Das hat ja auch in unserem Fall funktioniert.
Die Uhr selber ist eigentlich ein richtiges Haus. Hübsch anzusehen im typischen Schwarzwaldstil.
Ich gehe davon aus, das sie auch funktioniert. Das konnten wir allerdings nicht feststellen, da wir nicht eine volle Stunde warten wollten.
Aber wahrscheinlich kommt aus dem oberen Fenster irgendetwas raus und Klingelt.
Was mich aber wirklich beeindruckt hat, war der Souvenirshop im gleichen Haus um die Ecke.
Wenn man bedenkt, dass man hier eigentlich im Nirgendwo ist, und 20 km vor und nachher fast nichts ist, erwartet man keinen Store in dem mindestens 100 Personen gleichzeitig einkaufen könnten.
Natürlich gab es dort jede Menge Kuckucksuhren.
Ich habe mich gefragt, was wohl als erstes dort war. Der Shop oder die weltgrößte Kuckucksuhr.
Am Ende war es wohl einfach ein kleverer Schachzug und zieht wohl ab und zu ein paar kaufwillige Touristen an. Ich kann mir auch vorstellen, das der ein oder andere Reisebus hier anhält um seine Gäste kurz die Beine vertreten lässt.
Das war eine willkommene Abwechslung auf dem Weg von Augsburg nach Strasbourg. Gekauft haben wir aber nichts.
