Brechthaus
This time I was in the middle of the old town, in Schmiedgasse.
It's a small alley with a lot of history.
The most famous house here is the Bertold Brecht Birthplace.
Bertold Brecht lived in the 20th century and was a German lyricist, dramatist and librettist.
He is also responsible for Germany being called the land of poets and thinkers.
The house itself is relatively inconspicuous. I also think that not many Augsburgers have actually been inside the house.
Since Brecht is one of Augsburg's most famous personalities, the city bought the house so that it would not fall victim to a real estate shark one day and be completely changed. Today it is a memorial to Brecht.
For many Augsburgers, however, the house next door is much more important. For a few years now, it has been home to the pub: The drunken Monkey.
It is a pub with a large selection of different beers. But since they also offer many exotic beer specialities, it can happen that the beer you want is often sold out. But I think that's okay. You can't have 20 cases of everything in stock.
Directly at the end of Schmiedgasse is Perlachberg or Barfüßerstraße. This leads to the Rathausplatz.
And of course to the Barfüßerkirche.
That's it again for today. I hope you like this piece from Augsburg.
