My post today is about the city of Bergamo in Italy. We ended up there with the camper van for a stopover.

Whenever you don't expect much, you get surprised.

Bergamo is on the border of the Alps and is a very old city, conquered by the Romans in 196 BC.
The old town is situated on a hill. When we parked our car, we could already see the hill with the old houses on it.
When you arrive at the bottom, you have the option of going up by rack railway or on foot. As there were quite a few tourists at the railway, we took the footpath to the top. It only took 10 minutes anyway.

But at the top you are rewarded with a fantastic view that you won't get by train. The train takes you a little further into the centre of the old town.
And let's be honest, who would queue for 30 minutes, ride for 10 minutes and then walk down again?)
By the way, you can see the Alps in the background.

The old town is a gem, but I think it's only there for tourists. I wouldn't really live there.
I can imagine that you never have peace and quiet there.
The alleys were narrow and cars are fortunately scarce. In Germany, no SUV would fit through here. But most Italians have very small cars. The size of a mini is standard there.

You can really feel how people lived back then. When I walk through alleys like this, my head always jumps into my head and I see people walking through here 2000 years ago.

Actually, there is only one street for tourists. There, the shops and cafés are lined up until you reach the main square.

In the middle of this street was this little work of art. At least it was an eye-catcher.

Of course, we also had to eat something. This restaurant was our choice.
I have never seen such a huge selection of pizzas and focaccia.

What we didn't know was that they were bought by the gram.
And the portions were huge. But very tasty.

Bergamo is very beautiful. I can only recommend going there for a few hours if you are in the area anyway. But take more time than our 3 hours. There is a lot more, but we couldn't see it due to lack of time.

In Deutschland würde hier kein SUV durchpassen.
