When Bill Clinton modified James Carville’s phrase and said “It’s the Economy Stupid” he distilled a complex issue into a phrase. He was one step away from the universal explanation that explains everything and that drives all things, including our political system. I say “It’s the Money Stupid”.
I am an ex Aussie farmer of advancing years that was done over by a bank four years ago, losing the farm and a lifetime of work in the process. This was in spite of the fact that I had met all financial commitments and had the capacity to continue to do so into the future.
Anyway, this unfortunate experience forced me to delve into the murky world of finance and money, in order to fight the bank. I realised just how much I, and indeed the wider population does not know about money, its creation, tax, and how money is being used against not only Aussies, but indeed the planet.
I am now a converted MMT’er, although I still have much to learn. MMT stands for ‘Modern Monetary Theory’, but it is not a new monetary and fiscal system, rather it is how to use the existing system for the public good. I recently attended the first international MMT conference in Kansas City and would love to share what I have learnt there and over the years, and perhaps make a difference.
