Bottling up your emotions can lead to depression.
— Fact (@Fact) August 13, 2022
In my last post, I talked about social comparison and depression and I concluded that there are ways in which this could be true especially when you think about social media's effect on adolescents today. I also gave some advice on how parents can deal with this for themselves and how individuals themselves can fix this problem for themselves.
I want to talk about keeping things to yourself and how it can make you depressed. I general, I find this to be true. I feel saying things you really want to say might make you feel sad and sadness is one of the most important symptoms in the diagnosis of depression.
But I won't rely on my knowledge, I will go ahead and dig into literature and find out just how true it is.
Hello, My name is Dr. Ebingo Kgigha, I am the main writer at Medic Vibes. We intend to build a database of trustworthy information about depression with actual research information and analysis.
Depression is a mental health disorder whose specific cause has not been found, there are several theories about the condition popular among them is the serotonin pathway abnormality reading to low amounts of the neurotransmitter. Genetics has also been said to play a role with a 50% occurrence in identical twins.
Depression is known for its clinical features such as sad affect and a lack of interest in previously pleasurable activities. other findings a sleep changes and weight changes.

Bottling your emotions and Depression
According to a 2020 article written by Health Shots keeping your emotions to oneself was said to cause anxiety, weight loss, digestive problems. In addition to all this, they made mentioned how it can lead to several chronic conditions and including depression.
In A conscious Rethink it was emphasised that the depression in question is the lower case "d" and the anxiety is the lower case "a". This is a very important note because when many people refer to depression they may be referring to sadness.
But whenever I read @facts post about depression posted on Twitter it is never about simple sadness.
The next move for us is to see what research data has.
After checking the data on research around the topic, I did not find anything relating to depression and bottling emotions in the results.
After checking online I feel the information around the topic is too scattered to be conclusive.
Considering that the article A conscious rethink clearly said it is not about clinical depression but more or less sadness.
More information about this topic needs to be brought forward and made available for anything conclusive but I will say this.
If Bottling emotions can in deed cause sadness then it should be studied for its relationship to depression because sadness is a clinical feature of depression.
Tips
This is not medical advice, it is just my personal opinion
John Mayer in his album "Continuum" sang this out clearly in his song "say".
Take all of your wasted honour
Every little past frustration
Take all of your so-called problems
Better put 'em in quotations
Say what you need to say
In this song, he explains how you should let go of all that the past holds you to and try to speak. He also says it is better to say all that's in your mind than to live with the regret that you never said enough.
Dr Seuss who I started paying attention to after the tribute cartoon "The Lorax" said and I'm paraphrasing here, say what is o your mind, anyone who does not like what you said and cuts you off for it does not matter and those who should matter in your life, will not mind that you said what was in your mind.
Hive stories
In @purepinay's post she talked about how financial success may not be the key to achieving satisfaction in life. Brings out clear points from the fact that man mankind has gone higher in its achievements but depression still is a killer among the youth around the world.
I learned that there is more to life than happiness as she stated in her post... This is a true fact that many people only get to find out once they attain the kind of financial success @purepinaynay and her partner achieved.
