Architecture has moved on from past histories to the modern amusement. This consequently has resulted in cities of the world being called tourist centers, all for the mighty buildings built in them. Although history has stories of great buildings and architectural designs in Europe (United Kingdom, Italy, Greece etc.), Africa (Egypt, Ethiopia etc.) and some prominent as well as historical cities of the world, civilization yet wouldn’t stop creating surprising and incredible structural and architectural designs that people would want to have personal encounters with. This is not because they have not seen tall buildings before, but because the materials with which they are built, the height, the outlook and perhaps the number of compartments created in them usually spring disbelieve. There are more to say about the modern day architectural development but here I wish to intimate you with top ten incredible buildings of the world based on their height.
Burj Khalifa, Dubai
Completed in 2010, you most definitely may have heard of this building because of the popularity of Dubai in terms of tourism and even more architectural designs. I personally was wowed with the height of the building that I had to find my way to the topmost floor to know how people on the ground level would look like. Although it takes courage to do this, it is actually worth the try as you may be having a surprising tiny look of the ones you left at the ground level. I mean they would be that small that if you had not left them on the ground before joining the elevator up to the building, you may argue they are not humans. You would definitely have my kind of feeling if you can imagine how tall a building of 828 meters (2,717 ft) with 163 floors would seem. It’s worth being on the topmost spot here.
Shanghai Tower, China
The fast-growing economy of the country has attracted structural development too. Although the construction of the tower began in 2008, it took until 2013 to reach its highest level and it was officially unveiled in June 2015. It is ranked tallest in China but the second tallest in the world after Burj Khalifa. It has a total height of 632 meters and 128 floors. Is it not close to Burj Khalifa’s 828m right? Yeah… but it is nonetheless an amazing engineering achievement.
Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel, Saudi Arabia
This is the tallest hotel building in the world but third tallest building in the world after Burj Khalifa and Shanghai Tower. It was completed in 2012, located in the popular city of Mecca, has a stunning height of 601 meters and 120 floors.
One World Trade Centre, New York, USA.
No one would expect the WTC on the spot after the demolition of the North and South Tower following the 9/11 attack. This new building was opened in 2014, located on the WTC site, and it is 541.3 meters tall with 104 floors. A good position to be after the 9/11 attack? Definitely yes!
Taipei 101 of Taiwan
Guess what, this building ranked as the world tallest building in the world until 2010 that Burj Khalifa was declared as the world’s tallest. It simply made the home city of Taipei popular in the world, and most importantly it is the tallest building in Taiwan. It was opened in 2004 and it was said to contain 101 rooms in its 509 meters height.
Shanghai World Financial Center, China
Ranked number six on our list, this building is not just popular for its height but also the structure. It is always very sleek from an end and beautiful from the other. Opened in 2008, it is 492 meters tall and contains as many floors as the Taipei 101 of Taiwan. Not bad for that spot right? Exactly!
International Commerce Centre, Hong Kong
It seems buildings used for international purposes usually attract huge designs. The same can be said of ICC, Hong Kong. The building was unveiled for use in 2010, divided into 118 floors, and has a height of 484 meters.
Petronas Towers, Malaysia (Tie)
Tallest building from 1998 to 2004 before being surpassed by Taipei tower, the twin building will be tying on our 8th and 9th spot. It is located in the city of Kuala Lumpur and unveiled in 1998. It remains the tallest twin building in the world till date. It has a height 452 meters and a total of 88 floors. The building design is wow, maybe ancient in design, and they link into each other with stairs running down the middle of its height.
Zifeng Tower, China
China is featuring here again. That is to tell you how much the nation is investing in structural designs now. This building is 450 meters tall, possess 89 floors and was opened for use in 2010.
Willis Tower, Chicago, United States.
The building is formerly called the Sears Tower. After its completion in 1973, it went on to become the tallest building in the world. It held this rank for 25 years, surpassing the World Trade Centre. As old as it is, it is still standing as the second tallest building in the United States of America till date. It has a height of 442 meters and contains 108 floors.
