Snowy Mushroom And Some Metal Work! My Actifit Report Card: October 11 2026
We had a small skiff of snow last night and we're still seeing some flakes this morning!
When I first got up this morning I got this photo of snow on top of the mushroom solar light!
The daylight is starting come out. Here's a photo of the pepper dog girls I got a couple moments ago!
But let's get on to yesterday's metal work and some materials that we cut on our horizontal bandsaw!
Who doesn't love themselves some
4" x 12" x 1/4" Wall HSS
Was an exciting day at the shopper. We don't usually get this large type of rectangle tube through the doors!
This tube measures 4 in wide by 4 in tall and has a wall thickness of 1/4 in. Another name for rectangle steel tube is, Hollow Structural Steel (HSS)
Here's a photo of the stamping on the side of this tube, shows the country that it was milled in, it's got a heat treat number on it, as well as the size is stamped on it.
Even though the purpose of us bringing the size tube into the shop was for some canopy project going downtown in the city I live in in front of some bar or pub or something not really sure.
Myself, I was left with a couple off cuts of these that are 23 ft 6 in.
In the future I might pass these along to another project, but I did have fun yesterday daydreaming about what these could be used for. Always dreamed of a dream metal shop with a cantilever bedroom with the majestic view of the Rocky mountains. The two golf cut tubes could be that cantilevered material to hold the weight of the bedroom! It's fun to do a little dreaming when the sauce/saw is cutting!
Here's a couple of gif. files of the horizontal band saw cutting!
Richard at the shop put together this puzzle that gentleman traded us some work for!
And who could forget a blurry photo of the hive logo on the side of the horizontal bandsaw!
Could have tried to share some more of the exciting things that we get done at our metal shop! Most days it's too awesome. Busy to snap any photos or tell any stories. What I wake up in the morning to do my Actifit posts, I always questioned why I didn't take a few seconds to take some photos from the previous day in the metal working show!
We're starting to have an incredible library of metals!
Anyways, Thanks for stopping in and it's time to get this show on the road. I got to get some Sunday chores done dog walk, grocery shopping, and then over to my cousin's for Canadian Thanksgiving!
Enjoy your Sunday!!
