I wouldn't rely too much on what you may have heard about that tech at this point. Communication has one really important thing that is often not factored into ideas about how it works until it is too late. Some forms of communication can work just fine with significant delays. Others not so much so.
The Tesla tech may have had some significant latency that would mean that some forms of conversation (mainly real time over a distance) would not work. This has also been an issue with satellite communication. It is the main reason we end up with cell towers all over the place. Wireless of all known kinds is great until you factor in latency.
EDIT: If we can get quantum entanglement worked out well then that could solve wireless and latency issues at the same time.
