Splinterlands: new reward system

The splinterlands known for constant change are experiencing yet another shift with the upcoming alteration of the reward system. While the new system, set to be implemented by the end of the month, is expected to be an improvement, the current system is far from flawless. Certain individuals, particularly major players, are constantly searching for their advantage and will settle into a comfortable position once they find it. Even if they have the ability to progress to a higher league, they will choose to remain in their current league as long as it continues to benefit them.

People tend to stay in a league that favors them because they may not have the cards to participate in a higher league. However, the lower leagues are dominated by people with better decks, making it difficult for anyone else to compete. As a result, people remain in the lower league to farm all the rewards, rather than going into a higher league where there is more competition in the long run. Splitterlands is trying to change this by encouraging players to advance to higher leagues automatically, instead of remaining in their favorite league or the league where they can keep farming.

Balance is coming but at what cost

The concept is to create separate leagues for the Modern and Wide formats, each with a single reward pool instead of individual rewards. The system will match players based on their rating and deck, with the aim of pairing them with opponents they have a 50% chance of beating. There will be one leaderboard and one league. As you accumulate more wins, your rating will increase, but winning points are not currently being implemented. The chest reward system will remain the same for now, but there are plans to change it in the future.

The goal is to make it harder for you to win the next game by matching you with opponents that are not easier to beat. This benefits players with smaller decks who are still skilled and allows them to advance in the system. Although there will be many benefits in the short term, there may be changes later on. The challenge lies in wild format facing opponents who use bots to run his account, especially when combined with a good deck they will be very difficult to beat and I have a feeling it will only make them more powerful.

Modern is always an options

The modern format is always a popular choice because you get to play with real players, increasing your chances of winning. However, not everyone has access to the deck required to play in this format. The true potential of the new reward system can only be seen in the modern format, but the wild format will still be facing major issues like bots and the like. I am hopeful that improvements can be made to it in the future. I am excited to see how the new reward system will evolve over time.
