I am from the Yoruba tribe, and we believe that the spirit of the dead normally guides their loved ones, especially when in danger or when they want to make a terrible decision, the spirit of those Who have died talks to the living, putting a good thought in their mind, and also guiding their footsteps in life.
This belief is one of those things I thought my tribe always used to console themselves. I was reflecting on my life today, and I realized that apart from serving God there is an external force that has always helped me in one way or another because I know That I don't know it all, and I have always had a little bit of luck in some of the things I do.
the truth is, my father died so many years ago leaving my mother with little or nothing because of the problem with my father's family about his property, she did not see much to hold on to take care of us, so because of this, my mother had to work extra hard just to put food on the table, a single mother with three boys it was even very difficult and there was nobody to help her and that was why she normally returned home at night after a long day at the market.
Just because my mum was not always at home, my parental care was limited, I was always free to do anything I liked and go out with my friends. Even during this time, some of my friends were corrupt, and they tried to initiate me into what they were doing, but I did not join them. It's not because I have a good adviser or because my mum was always around to correct me about what is good or bad, but there was always this voice in my head that told me some things were not good and would endanger my life.
Now, I still don't know why I did not join my friends back in those days, and the same thing happened when I gained admission into the university. I have so many friends in school and even though I don't have bad friends in school, just because I was struggling and I understood what my mom was going through to provide for me to go to university. I don't have much time for friends, but my school area is always related to so many accidents, and I could recall quite a few of them. There is this voice in my head that will just warn me to live in a certain area and something will later happen in that area which is luck, but sometimes more than that.
I am very sure that my father's spirit is always with me just because I think about him every day, and I think about the memories that we shared when I was young because and my father I used to play a lot, and those days, he always tells me stories about Nigeria and our family, and he's one of those people who makes me love football. I remember how we used to watch France's World Cup 1998 in his sitting room.
If he is still alive, my life would have been better than this, I can't say I have a perfect life because it is full of mistakes, and sometimes I make decisions that his advice would have been beneficial, and I did some things that I know that his experience would have let me avoid, but I'm thrilled that even so, he is not here. I can still feel his presence.
My family and I have not moved on, and year after year, his love in me keeps growing. Even though he is not here, I know he will be proud of me in heaven for how far I have come, and now, I have used his teachings to better my life.
The older I get, the more I see that it is true that the spirit of our loved ones lives on, and they are there to protect and guide us from any evil that we want to befall us. I believe in my tribe theory that my father's spirit will always be with me and will always guide my few steps for the rest of my days.
