Bitcoin hit a high above $7,400 after the news, and Monex shares surged 23 percent on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
"It's a massive confidence boost; you now have a regulated public company in Japan buying into a crypto exchange," says Brian Kelly, CEO of BK Capital Management.
