Ciao ragazzi!
Cos矛.

Hi guys!
The #UntoBisunto contest from this super community, Olio di Balena, continues, and I'm continuing to participate because the proposed topics motivate me to write, and especially to think and write in Italian (and I need practice to get used to it, and hopefully make fewer mistakes...). In short, the theme of this 43rd edition is about the things we take away from this summer, which is about to end today. So, I'm thinking a bit about these past miserable months and I'll tell you a little...
Ah, summer! A season so many enjoy, enjoying it while others tire of the sticky heat or prefer the cooler air to do more. In any case, summer exists; this year, I'd say it arrived early, and it doesn't seem to want to end just yet. But it officially ends, and it does so today, Sunday the 21st, because tomorrow is the equinox, and we'll welcome the welcoming and bucolic autumn. And today, a quiet Sunday with strange skies, with coffee, I think is the best time to reflect on these past months and think about the things I'm taking away from this season, now over.
And I'd say I'm taking something important away, actually: time for myself. Just like that. This isn't to be underestimated, because time is precious; we always want more of it, we always need more of it, and it's not easy to find some quality free time for ourselves. It seems like summer could be a good opportunity to rest and do what we couldn't do before due to our usual commitments. Sometimes we don't even have much time in the summer, because vacations become stressful, constantly rushing back and forth to take photos of new places, going to the beach or the mountains every day, always doing something. But what if we don't do anything?
After two (previous) very busy summers, working every day, even on weekends, this year I enjoyed it without doing a damn thing. I had finished my first (new) year of university, everything has gone well, so no studies, and no obligations during the long summer. Although because of this decision to go back to school, I didn't have the savings to travel, so I stayed home. Luckily, I live near the sea (a 10-15 minute walk), so it wasn't bad at all, because I still enjoyed the sea, in fact even better, with all the tranquility in the world. And I felt the sea, I looked at it, from near and far, and I let myself be carried away by the breeze and the intense blue.
In addition, I was able to read a lot, watch movies and TV series (when I felt like it), sleep as much as I wanted, go to the gym (despite the sweat), and just do nothing. And also learn, not study, but learn little things, like a few YouTube videos on interesting topics that made me think more, even think differently, change my mindset and outlook on life, and I think this is a good thing.
And thinking about good things, importantly, I was lucky enough to have more time with my nephew. He came here for several days, and we did things together: playing, watching those cartoons about police dogs, I read him some fairy tales and stories, we ran down the hallway laughing, he got wet in a fountain, we took a few walks along the seafront, we had fun and had a blast. I adore this kid!
At the same time, I recently read that being bored is useful, that is, that it's a good thing in a way, because it resets our usually overstimulated brain. And I was able to reflect on a few things: I feel lucky, to have been able to have this time for myself, to delve deep into myself, into my thoughts, and tell myself that it's okay this way, that we don't always have to feel guilty for being unproductive and overly active, that there are moments to be quiet, at home, doing nothing, listening to our thoughts, meditating, and simply enjoying the present moment.
