Hello friends!
And the week is over, perhaps time for some review to entertain ourselves this weekend, because as the days get shorter, we may feel like spending more time at home watching a new TV show.
For example, this review is about a fairly recent TV series, well it's from 2022 and this year the second season came out (which I haven't seen yet, I think it wasn't broadcast in my country, so I expect it soon). This is Dark Winds.
A title that already attracts us but is not what it seems. What I like the most is the theme, again suspense and investigation of a crime, a double homicide. But what is relevant is the context, the series is located in a reservation of the Navajo tribe in the 70s where the police officers are all natives, and this time they must investigate together with a FBI agent, because everything becomes complicated and intertwined with the robbery to an armored van in a nearby town.
A detail that we cannot ignore is that this series has been produced by George R. R. Martin and Robert Redford. That's already a positive point, right?
And what is it about?
Well, as I mentioned, this is an intriguing double homicide that has to be investigated by the police belonging to the Navajo tribe. They are the ones who must find out what has happened in their jurisdiction, in the 27,000 square meters that belong to this tribe, in the 70s. This is seen mainly by some of the clothes that one of the protagonists wears at the beginning, it is not a flashback to the past.
It is the first time, if I am not mistaken, that we are shown how those natives already function in a Western society, but that they preserve their roots and customs. In fact, the protagonist, when faced with a comment of certain contempt for his ancestral culture from his partner, responds: “our culture is what has allowed us to survive”.
And so they have done, and despite the fact that they were almost exterminated by the English people, they are still there, and they continue to maintain that special and unique bond with their land and with nature. The problem may be the influence of the modern world, or the lack of understanding and respect towards these tribes.
Different elements
In the TV show this is also seen, through the figure of the FBI agent who appears to solve another case of a robbery of an armed van that takes him there, and everything comes together. It is important to the relationship with one of the Navajo polices, what is going on? (I won't say more...).
Another thing that has caught my attention is when a group is mentioned, an association of natives that asks for the independence of their land, outside of American imperialist capitalism, with "great words" of revolutionaries that usually sound good but are usually addressed in another way...
And we also see the typical figure of the "devoted" car salesman scammer who appears religious but who in reality has nothing to do with it also appears.
Everything intermingles in an arid territory of the American southwest, where many things will come to light, while the investigation continues.
I repeat, I like this different view, from the point of view of the Navajo people, of their survival in later decades, in society, in respect for cultures, rites and ancestral beliefs that allow them to maintain their identity and perhaps everything they are.
I look forward to the second season, to once again focus on those details of these people that have always aroused a lot of curiosity and attraction in me, my friend @coolmidwestguy knows this, and I know that he is also very interested.
If you watch it, I hope you find it entertaining, interesting and that you want to see the entire series.
