Hello everyone!

Here again posting about a street mural that I have seen in this community StreetArt and I would like to join this week's contest, CCC's Street Art Contest #124 hosted by digi-me@digi-me, thanks for the initiative!

You can see more about this contest and its rules, in his post here:

And I wanted to share with all of you a mural that we could say is existential, even spiritual, or simply the author displayed a certain black humor.

What first caught my attention was not the theme but the place located, because the perspective helps to see it very clearly. And where is?

The mural is located in the Spanish city of Santander, on the north coast. It is also on a very busy street in the center of the city, as there is a funicular that citizens, both residents and many tourists, use to go up or down from the upper part of the city to the lower part of the city. Santander is a city with a complex orography and it is easy to find very steep streets, with slopes and stairs. And since there are older people, to facilitate access in some of these streets, there are even escalators or, as in this one, a mechanical treadmill surprises us! Like in an airport, and it's not the only one.

But yes, this street, called Río de la Pila, is unique because it has a funicular that serves as an urban elevator and from which we can enjoy the views of the city towards the sea, and the beautiful light of sunrise or sunset. And also from there if we look to the right we will see this great mural. Curiously, if we go up the street towards the funicular from below we will not be able to see the mural, we would only see the building from behind, it is when we go down either by the stairs or from the funicular that we discover this curious mural.

We look at the mural that seems to be made in 2018 and a sentence stands out at the top, it has a title:

"To put off death"

(“Alejar a la muerte” in Spanish).

From here with the caricature image of the entity of death, a skeleton with a black hood and a hoe, but with a certain funny air it becomes the protagonist of all that great wall. Then if we look closely we see a pomegranate, broken in half, perhaps as a symbol of life, and also below, blueberries, garlic and ginger... Could it be that this mural is telling us that the best way to put off death is with a healthy diet and good food?

What do you think? It seems that it is not scary but that this mural in this particular and different street has a positive message, and the environment makes it even more special.

Thanks for reading! Have an amazing day full of life.
