In the last few days, I've been watching the posts of people from Crete and Antalya, where they mention very bad weather, which ruined the end of the summer season (which is still less bad than those floods that happen in Spain).
And I remember the very beginning of our summer vacation, a little more than a month ago, when we witnessed a historic weather disaster.
We landed in Cyprus on August 29 and checked into the hotel before dawn.
The clouds I saw from the terrace heralded confirmation of the forecast I followed on YT - some rain during the day.
I was surprised by such a forecast, because it rains very rarely in Cyprus and the clouds that appear quickly disperse (at least that's how it was until now 馃檪).
But, after breakfast, around 11:00, there was a real bad weather.
On the news and social networks, flash floods in Nicosia, historic rainfall in Limassol, never before recorded, and individuals shared the appearance of a leech (like that in a tornado) on the shores of Larnaca.
I followed reports of planes landing in Larnaca and saw that some were diverted to surrounding mainland states...
From the terrace of the hotel where we were staying, we witnessed a real storm.
It was daytime, so the sound of thunder was not accompanied by traces of flashing lightning in the sky, and judging by the ear-splitting sounds, one could only imagine what this thunder would be like overnight.
While the storm lasted, a little longer than 4 hours, we retreated to the hotel, but as soon as the rain decreased in intensity, with umbrellas in hand, we left the hotel for the coast.
I don't write "to the beach" on purpose, because you go to the beach to swim, and not in the rain 馃檪
In the video I made from several shorter ones, recorded during that first day of our vacation, you can see the complete development of the situation, but also the direction in which the storm continued after it roared over Cyprus.
There in the distance, across the sea, are Syria and Lebanon, and I think that the lightning that tore the sky in the distance was the lightning of a storm that reached Tripoli, Beirut or Damascus.
Going ashore while it was still raining, I had the opportunity to see the rough sea and the waves hitting the rocks, and I was especially interested in the wave that, at the moment of breaking into the pier, rose up behind my back.
At that moment, the rain stopped completely, and I packed the umbrella I had been carrying until then into the back pocket of my bernudos.
I stood on this wooden jetty and enjoyed the roar of the waves and the smell of salt in the air.
And in that moment, when I turned my back to the rough sea and the high waves, in that one second before it got wet, the beginning of my summer vacation happened.
Wet from head to toe, I took off my shirt and let the sun shyly shine on my wet back behind the clouds that started to part.
The still cloudy sky, waves on the sea and the sun's rays breaking through the clouds brought us beautiful shots, which I share with you in this kind of #Photoessay story.
Since I started my walk to the coast from Hotel Papantonia, where we spent a beautiful 9 days, I will mark it on my #Worldmappin map, so that I can come back to it again.
Because this is an excellent choice of hotel, with a good ratio of price and quality, with a double pool complex, because the complex was created by joining two hotels, so the yard is twice as big, and therefore also part of swimming and relaxing by the water.
