The US State Department will require all visa applicants to submit their social networking accounts for research, Engadget reports, citing CNN. If the proposal is accepted, almost all those wishing to obtain a visa must provide, in addition to this information, an inspection in the last five years and all the telephone numbers and e-mail addresses used for the same period.
Last year, the Department of Homeland Security introduced a new rule that allows social media to include information from immigrants. Approximately 15 million visa applicants will be affected by the change. It is expected that the new rules will be adopted within a few months.
