Introduction

I 'm here to announce the release of HiveWrite, a lightweight browser based Markdown text editor that publishes directly to the Hive blockchain using Hive @Keychain.

HiveWrite was created around a simple idea, you should be able to publish your writing content to the Hive blockchain without reliance on centralized frontends.

Why I Built HiveWrite

I believe that we as Hive users should embrace being more decentralized and less reliant on centralized frontends. For as good as those tools are, they are still centralized and belong to someone else.

I wanted a tool that Hive users control. Hosted where they choose. Run on their own terms

I wanted that tool to be simple to setup without having to deal with databases (Hive is the database), server side code, build processes and no frameworks.

HiveWrite puts more control in the Hive users hands and less dependence on centralized Hive frontends.

What HiveWrite is

HiveWrite is a browser based Markdown editor that publishes directly to Hive using the Hive Keychain browser extension. It is a single HTML file that can be self hosted almost anywhere and is open source.

Core Features

Here is a list of some the core features of HiveWrite.

Writing

• Markdown Editor - The way most posts are formatted on Hive.
• Toolbar - Toolbar with the formatting buttons needed to insert directly into your post.
• Write/Preview Toggle - Switch between writing and editing to a live preview of your post.
• Undo/Redo Buttons - Undo or Redo your edits with a button click.

Publishing

• Hive Keychain Integration - Hive Keychain signs your transaction and posts your content to your Hive blog or community of your choice.
• Tags Support - Add the tags that best reflect the content of your post. Fill in tag and then use the the SPACE bar, ENTER or Comma to add them to your post.
• Rewards Settings - Choose what kinds of rewards you wish to receive on your post. 50/50 HP+HBD/HIVE , 100% HIVE, Decline rewards or Burn rewards.
• Beneficiaries - You can set any Hive account as beneficiaries for rewards on your post.

Customization

• Light and Dark Modes — Choose the writing environment that matches your mood. The light theme offers a clean, paper-like workspace that's perfect for daytime writing and editing, while the dark theme provides a warm, distraction-free atmosphere for late-night creativity and focused writing sessions.
• Self Host Most Anywhere - HiveWrite is just one file that will work on any hosting that supports HTML.
• No Install or Configuration - Just upload to your host and it works right out of the box.

Self-Hosting and Ownership

HiveWrite was designed from the start to be self hosted and owned by the Hive user and community. Anywhere you can host an HTML file, and have @Keychain installed on your browser, you can use HiveWrite. You are in control.

GitHub Pages, Netlify, Cloudflare Pages will work. Free hosting sites like Nekoweb and Neocities will do the trick too. Of course inexpensive paid hosting will work with Hive Write. And if you are technical and you run your own personal sever, you are good to go.

HiveWrite belongs to you. Use it how and when you want, not dependent on a centralized frontend.

Why This Matters

HiveWrite, along with my other project SoloHive, were built with the philosophy that the Hive user owns their own account and content associated with that account. I feel that we need tools to further move towards that goal and away from centralized frontends and websites. Hopefully these tools will give the Hive user the independence to create and display their content on their terms. Just like the Hive Blockchain separates users content from any single website.

HiveWrite isn't trying to replace your favorite frontend. It's giving Hive users another way to create and publish while reducing dependency on any single website or service.
