Dear Bacci,

I'm afraid it’s that time again darling. Time to visit the nice lady in the purple smock. You remember her. I know you remember her. She is big and really strong, but needs a couple of helpers on the days we bring you in. 96 pounds of lovely you, keenly focused on the exit, is a bit much for 175 pounds of determined her, just as keenly focused on the door to the grooming room. Happily, they don't charge us for extra helpers, just Ms. Purple Smock. But I always give her a big tip to share with them anyway. Tips are kind of like finding a dead chipmunk in the backyard, just a little extra something to make your day a bit brighter.

After a visit to Ms. Purple Smock, your toenails won't click so much when you run into the kitchen each time I open the frig, and it won't be quite as easy for you to slip on the tile and crash into my legs. So less clicking, less sliding, less spilled milk, fewer scattered blueberries or cracked applesauce jars. Yay!! Plus, you're going to smell great. I know, I know, you prefer your normal doggy perfume, but We Who Bring the Kibble like something a little milder, not as much charisma as your regular scent. You understand. Anyway, the appointment with Purple Smock is on Tuesday. I'll remind you again then.

The other thing I wanted to bring up was the whole Bootsie thing. He's a great cat, we all love him, and he seems to have adopted you as his special friend, but I really want you to start thinking more carefully before accepting his little gifts. Those aren't leftovers honey, they're casualties. The mice, voles, moles and whatever-else-they-ares with not enough left to be identified, those are not for you sweetie. Have a little self-respect. You're acting like his personal maid. It’s beneath you to clean up after him. You don't need to gobble up whatever he has decided to leave on the mat. Just come get one of us. Bark or something. We're bound to catch on eventually.

Anyway, you know I love you darling. Be home in a bit to take you for a walk.
