As a native New Yorker, I'm basically conditioned to ignore crowds, and especially tourists, in most famous public places. I would certainly agree that social media culture has made tourism evem worse. But I see it more than just at famous tourist sites. I see it at dance clubs where more people are recording the DJ playing the music than dancing to the beat. I see it at sporting events, where people want to take pictures all around the stadium while barely paying attention to the game.
The only solution I can see is to limit the amount of tourists so the location maintains its sacred standing for locals whole allowing foreigners to experience it. Charge a fee and reinvest it im renewal and education.
Isn't Inari those cute little sweet fried tofu pockets stuffed with rice and other toppings? Thats all I could think about when you kept writing the name of the place and now I'm hungry. Headed to the kitchen. Cheers!
