It sounds like you're living the Alexander Supertramp lifestyle.

An interesting thing has happened over my lifetime though.
Everyone went to college, and everyone's parents wanted them to go.
Their father's all "wanted better" for them, and in so many cases those trades you mentioned (carpentry, electrician, plumbing, HVAC) were not handed-down to the sons of those men.

It's created a situation where there's kind of a shortage of skilled trade workers.
It also doesn't help that those things weren't seen as glamorous.
And ironically, the AI/automation is more likely to replace the people who do things like write-code, design graphics, and videos.
The machines are a ways off from being able to figure out why there's water coming up in your bath-tub. They usually can't lay tile, do grout, or plumb in a vanity.
So people who want to earn money can go into those things.
You can learn under a company, and eventually work for yourself.
You can help your friends and family when they need that sort of work done, and can't afford to spent 5 grand.
My father is a very skilled trade worker, and so are many of his friends.
Him and them have saved me so much money so many times.
He once put a 2nd floor on the friends house across the street for basically beer, pizza, and material. They did it in about a week. I watched them, and I was maybe 12.

I wish that I would have started working with him when I was a kid. I'd be so much better off right now, but better late than never I guess.

And yeah the entire world is really screwed up right now. If I were 20 right now I probably wouldn't even realize how fall it's fallen, and just knowing that is a terrifying thought.
