There's a former Hollywood comedian turned "truther" and livestreamer named Owen Benjamin, and his take on wealth is pretty similar and solid.
He measures wealth in relationships, utility, and of course food.
He was a cancelled comedian living outside of Seattle, and suddenly got into growing food/gardening. Today he lives in Idaho has goats, chickens, alpaca, rabbits, and even a cow. On top of that he has a greenhouse and other crops. But being somewhat famous and selling off an LA condo for over a million gives you one hell of a head start.
The thing about currency and the system is that we all rely on it to some extent.
Even when you own your house: deed in hand, you still pay taxes on it, and on top of that is the power, networking, and water.
I suppose there are places very much out of the way where this is different.
With a moving stream/river you could generate electricity, and there are simple ways to deal with washroom needs.
