NuVision Health Center Supports Neighbors United’s #WalkForTheRED
At NuVision Health Center, we believe wellness extends beyond the walls of our clinic. It means supporting our neighbors, giving back to the community, and standing behind those who dedicate their lives to helping others.
This year, our team was honored to support Neighbors United, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization made up of volunteers committed to helping families in need—especially firefighters and their families facing difficult circumstances.
Walking for Michigan Firefighters and Their Families
One of Neighbors United’s largest initiatives is #WalkForTheRED, an annual 140-mile walk across Michigan created by Macomb Township firefighter and Neighbors United President, Joe Warne.
The walk raises awareness and financial support for firefighters battling cancer and their families. Occupational cancer has become a significant concern within the firefighting profession, and many firefighters facing illness experience financial hardships that are often hidden from the public.
Neighbors United works to provide meaningful assistance to these families, helping with essential needs such as household expenses, transportation, and other costs that can become overwhelming during cancer treatment.
This year, the organization is supporting 91 Michigan firefighting families, an increase from 76 families in 2025.

NuVision Health Center Joins the Cause
NuVision Health Center was proud to serve as an official donation collection center for this year’s Walk for the RED.
Our team helped collect generous donations for the cause and provided electrolyte powder to help fuel Joe during his incredible journey across Michigan.
But we wanted to do more than simply contribute supplies.
To show our support in person, a member of Dr. Nick’s Community Outreach team joined Joe for the first six miles of his walk, traveling alongside him toward UWM Field, home of the United Shore Professional Baseball League.
It was an inspiring opportunity to stand beside someone who is dedicating so much time, energy, and heart to helping fellow firefighters and their families.
Supporting Those Who Serve Others
The mission of Neighbors United is a powerful reminder that even small acts of generosity can make a meaningful difference.
Firefighters spend their careers serving others, often putting their own health and safety on the line. Through #WalkForTheRED, Joe and the Neighbors United team are helping ensure that firefighters and their families know they are not alone when difficult times arise.
