I know Neil Gaiman and others go back and republish their work at DC under the "Absolute" series aka "Absolute Sandman" or "Absolute Hellboy" etc. He was able to go back and recolor and resize the art to his original desires. Don't know if anyone else goes back and changes the plot though...
